Survival Prepping Isn’t Paranoia, It’s Civic Duty
Survival planning is the “just in case” planning for any kind of natural or human-made disaster that can keep your family safe when other families may not have the same opportunities for safety. There are many kinds of disaster scenarios that a survival prepper is planning for - these emergencies could be a hurricane, a long-term electricity outage, domestic unrest like a riot, or an attack that comes from outside of our American borders. All of these possible disasters can quickly and severely impact even the most basic of your family's needs.
Every summer, Floridians and other Gulf Coast residents plan for the hurricane season that extends from June 1 through November 30. The government weather agencies implore citizens to prepare by stockpiling food, water, and other necessary supplies; planning for outages after a hurricane with supplies for up to two weeks or more. Some hurricanes leave people without power for weeks on end, so stocking up on supplies is essential as you await an emergency response and rebuild.
Preparing for hurricane season is not a marginalized activity - prepping for a possible hurricane is necessary to taking proper care of yourself and your immediate family. There is nothing paranoid about having your hurricane supplies prepped and ready well before the storm hits.
The same is true of survival prepping: you determine the possible emergencies that could impact your family and then you decide the best way to plan and prepare for them, even if that’s just having a safety plan on paper. Survival prepping is not preparing for a zombie apocalypse, but there are many possible natural and human-made disaster scenarios that are possible in our modern world.
Preparing for the unforeseen disaster starts with mental preparation and creating a plan that is reasonable for your family‘s needs. Having an evacuation plan is extremely important for many kinds of emergencies. Keeping tools, water, or other important documents with you at all times is a smart decision to give you a foot up and any type of crisis.
Always be aware of your surroundings. Awareness of your surroundings at all times is the beginning to smart survival prepping. Keep your head out of your phone all the time and notice things in your surroundings. Notice suspicious happenings, things that make you nervous, and tools in your environment that may be a benefit at a moment's notice.
Preparing for the unknown doesn’t have to be scary. By keeping a few basic supplies around and increasing your skills, you will give yourself confidence and less in your fears. Preparation is a huge key to success in any situation you may find yourself living in.
